Johnson County Rural Fire District #1 covers approximately 45 square miles and serves approximately 2800 people. The district borders the north side of the Clarksville city limits and serves the Ludwig, Mt. Vernon, East Mt. Zion, Hillcrest, Mt. Olive, and Stillwell communties.

Johnson County RFD #1 in Clarksville, Arkansas is nestled at the foot of the Ozark Mountains.

In 2006, RFD #1 presented and/or participated in 203 fire safety programs and activities (up 176% from the previous year).

Firefighters & Fire Corps members volunteered 8793 hours (up 136%) & participated in 376 hours of fire safety training (up 148%). Since 2003, the department has received six fire safety related grants from the Department of Homeland Security and two grants from the Arkansas Fire Prevention Commission. These grants, coupled with the financial support of sponsors and the hard work of the department's firefighters and Fire Corps members, have enabled the department to experience a 34% decrease in property losses due to fire since that time.

Clarksville Fire Department proudly protects 8200 people living in an area of 18.76 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.

The Clarksville Fire Department has a four-story training facility, burn building, classrooms, Natural and LP gas fire simulators, tanker fire simulator, smoke maze, and SCUBA training tanks. The department has an in-house cascade room for SCBA service and trained service technicians for the the SCBA's used by the department. We also have a mobile SCBA air compressor, cascade, and filter system. The Clarksville Fire Department completed an upgrade in its training facility to multi-hazard training through a grant from FEMA. Training for fire, police, and emergency workers can be handled by the department. The project was completed in August of 1998. The Clarksville Fire Department is also the home of the cut-away training fire hydrant. Any department needing a cut-away hydrant built for their department contact our department.
